Brian Helsel, PhD, CSCS

Dr. Helsel is an Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas Alzheimer’s Disease Researcher Center in the Department of Neurology at The University of Kansas Medical Center. His research focuses on the impact of exercise on brain aging and Alzheimer’s disease development in adults with Down syndrome. He is also interested in how other lifestyle and metabolic factors contribute to disease risk in individuals with Down syndrome across the lifespan. Dr. Helsel’s current research is focused on improving the measurement of physical activity in individuals with Down syndrome using portable accelerometers and evaluating the impact of physical activity on plasma biomarkers associated with Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive function in adults with Down syndrome.
